Systems of the Human Body

Introduction

You are a medical student at the University of Washington. Your medical internship will take place at Washington Hospital under the supervision of Dr. Phillip Miller, the Chief of Staff

Task

A team of medical students will research one of nine systems of the human body. These systems include: Circulatory, Digestive, Endocrine, Muscular, Nervous, Reproductive, Respiratory, Skeletal, and Urinary.
Teams will be chosen by Dr. Miller, using a random selection process in which medical students draw one of the nine systems out of a container. Students who draw the same system will work together to research the system they have drawn. At least three, but not more than four, medical students will make up each team.
Each team will be expected to present their findings to their superiors and their colleagues at the Washington Medical Symposium.

Process

Information that is needed includes the following:
  1. Which organs make up the system
  2. Explanation as to how the system functions
  3. Diagrams and/or illustrations of the system
  4. Disorders associated with the system
At the Washington Medical Symposium Dr. Miller suggests using charts, a lecture, overheads, or HyperStudio for the presentation.

Evaluation

5
addresses the task effectively with unnoticeable errors  in language structure and use, as well as vocabulary and pronunciation .
4
contains some parts of 5 and 3
3
some parts of the task are not addressed;  some errors in language structure and use, as well as vocabulary and pronunciation .
2
contains some parts of 3 and 1
1
addresses only slight parts of the task;  very noticeable errors in language structure and use, as well as vocabulary and pronunciation.

Conclusion

Upon completion of this project you will have learned to use a variety of media and have also learned about different diseases/disorders common to the body systems.
