Medical Congresses

Introduction

Medicine is the applied science or practice of the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. It encompasses a variety of health care practices evolved to maintain and restore health by the prevention and treatment of illness in human beings.

Contemporary medicine applies health science, biomedical research, and medical technology to diagnose and treat injury and disease, typically through medication or surgery, but also through therapies as diverse as psychotherapy, external splints & traction, prostheses, biologics, ionizing radiation and others. The word medicine is derived from the Latin ars medicina, meaning the art of healing.

Task

You are a physician who has just graduated from the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo (UAEH) and wants to study a specialty. In order to decide what specialty to study you will attend a congress where you will meet physicians who are specialized in the areas you are interested in.

You will introduce yourself to this group of specialists and will ask them some questions about their specialties.

Process

1. Gather in teams of 4.
2. Watch all the youtube videos.
3. Visit and study all the notes in the websites.
4. Listen to the audio and complete the material given to you.
5. Study the notes.
6. Determine the specialty/specialties you are interested in and write some questions to get information about it from the specialists.
7. Give your questions to your classmates.
8. Answer the questions given to you.
9. Role-play the meeting with the doctors.

Upon completion of this project you will have learned how to introduce yourself and greet people formally as well as vocabulary related to medical specialties and specialists.
